Stream Xbox gameplay on your Apple device
People who have both Apple products and an Xbox One have a bit of a conundrum because they can’t stream their gameplay directly from the Xbox One to their Apple device. While this feature has been around for Windows 10 devices, Apple users have been left out in the cold in this issue. Thankfully, there is now OneCast, a streaming app that allows users to do just that, stream Xbox One gameplay to iPads or iPhones. Using this app, Apple users won’t be limited to using a TV and console to play, and they can enjoy much more freedom and flexibility when it comes to their Xbox One gaming.
Setting-up
Setting-up OneCast can be a bit complicated especially if you’re not very tech-savvy, but if you follow instructions closely, it shouldn’t be too confusing. In terms of hardware and software, OneCast does not support devices with iOS versions lower than iOS 10 and MacOS lower than Yosemite or 10.10. It also does not support any other Xbox console aside from Xbox One. Additionally, it’s preferable for your Xbox console to be connected to your network via Ethernet port.
Once your hardware and software are set up, you need to download OneCast and search for your Xbox One in order to register it. When your console has been registered to the app, you now need to log-in to your Microsoft account. Now, all that’s left is for you to play Xbox on your phone!
Interface and Performance
When playing the game, it plays in full screen on your phone with the controls semi-transparent and floating on top of the screen. Amazingly, the makeshift controls by OneCast contain most of the functionality of any Xbox Controller. It has the directional pad, the face buttons, and left and right trigger buttons. The fact that it’s floating on top of your game screen is a bit annoying, however. It kind of obstructs your view from the game itself. However, OneCast does support external controllers so it the obstruction problem can be solved. It does require you to be closer to your Xbox, though, which might be a problem on its own.
One problem major problem with OneCast, though, is that it experiences some lag issues. This is why it’s recommended that your console is connected to your network via an ethernet port. WiFi might be more convenient, but it’s not worth sacrificing quality gaming experience. Especially since OneCast can support high-quality gaming graphics.
Great at What It Was Made For
OneCast was made with one purpose and that is to allow users to stream their Xbox One gameplay to their Apple devices. In this respect, OneCast is perfectly functional. As long as you take the time and effort to set-up OneCast properly, it will surely serve you well. It might have some problems along the way, but the app does provide some alternative options to overcome them. Ultimately, there’s no replacing playing from a TV and console, but if you’re dead set on playing on your phone, you can rest assured that OneCast provides you with that opportunity.
